So since I've started the Catherine Learns to Cook project (which I sadly do not really document here any more, must change that!) things have drastically improved in my kitchen. Though I am not a confident cook, and still follow recipes to the T instead of improvising meals, I think I'm pretty solid. I can make some good food. With the confidence I've gained as a relatively good cook, I've also started to venture into making a few foods by hand at home. The following are things I've made from scratch (they're all still realy simple, and I can't wait to try more advanced versions of each), with the best recipes I've found for each:
-Pasta
-Ice cream/gelato
-Bread
-Pizza dough
(Can you tell I'm a Marcella Hazan fan?)
After a successful bread attempt this weekend, I've decided I want to devote this summer to making as many homemade reicpes as I can. I solicited ideas on Twitter, and came up with this list:
Ricotta
Jam
Pickles
Sausage
Beer
Butter
Mayo
Mustard
Bagels
Anyways, once I have a bit more free time (I'm traveling this weekend) I'll start to document the process of making these all. As an avid cheese-lover, I'm pretty sure I'll start with ricotta. Any other homemade suggestions to add to the list?
