I don't want to brag, but I'm about to have the best weekend. I've got a run planned (c'mon - for me, this is best), an acupuncture session (shrug, you know what I'm about), I'm going to Arlene's bachelorette party which will involve my first time drinking the fine cocktails at the Columbia Room. It'll be all-around-A+.
But the best news for this weekend? Nay, the BEST NEWS EVER? I don't even know if I can type it. I got selected for the National Zoo's first Instagram meet up. And who is the star of their first meet up? THE BABY FREAKING PANDA, BAO BAO.
If you've been around these parts for a while, you know part of my lore is involvement in DC's baby panda scene. I was part of the creation & popularization of the moniker Butterstick. When he was born, I was writing on DCist, and I was basically the panda beat. I did get to go see Butterstick when he was a roly poly baby panda, displayed to the public, but it was with the UNWASHED MASSES, where I stood on tiptoe to see him clumsily trip over some bamboo, braying "awwws" left and right with dozens of others.
Anyways. Because I'm a human being with a mostly functioning heart, I love baby pandas. So I'm pretty excited to get to meet Bao Bao. As part of the meet up, we get to interact with Bao Bao's keepers, and ask them question. So far, I've got this:
-Can I hold him?
-No seriously let me hold the baby panda
-WHY DID YOU LET BUTTERSTICK GO BACK TO CHINA
-Does Butterstick ever ask after me?
-Come to think of it... is Butterstick um... even still alive?
That's all I got, though. So I could use your help: What should I ask the zookeepers this weekend? What should I ask Bao Bao? And what messages shall we all pass on to Butterstick?
