It's time for these again! I really love doing weekend reports. If only because it really forces me to remember things that happened 48 hours ago, which is tough for me.
Friday: I stayed in and cowered at the storm. I had to wake up early and do 12 miles the next AM at 6AM so this made sense. I ate a bowl of pasta, drank 6 gallons of water, messed around on the internet, and watched Breaking Dawn Part I (luckily I never lost power). How does Bella not constantly want to murder herself due to all the suffocating men in her life? And isn't she worried that her baby is so terrifying-looking? Neverthless, I will no doubt see the next one in theaters.
Saturday: I woke up at 5:30AM and it was terrible! I stumbled my way down to the Pacers store in Logan Circle to do our group run. It was fine, but we ran through Rock Creek Park, and it was a disaster down there. Trees were scattered across the path like a so many wind-strewn toothpicks.
Post-run, I seemed to have a strange reserve of energy so I cleaned my apartment pretty deeply. Fascinating! Then after cleaning up and messing around the house a bit more, I met a bunch of ladies at the movie theater for a screening of "Magic Mike."
I thought this movie was pretty great. The dance sequences are hilarious/amazing. There's not a ton of plot, and the romance/business aspect of the story is a bit weak, but overall, highly enjoyed. It helped that we were in a sold-out matinee full of ladies who were quite enthusiastic.
After the movie, I went to Boundary Stone with Becks were we chatted for an hour or two and promptly got day-drunk on 3 cans of light beer. Adulthood!
I then strolled over to Amanda's where we watched the second half of "The Adjustment Bureau." I'd seen it before but I still really like that movie. Then we strolled over to Annie's, where she made some seriously delicious homemade pho. We drank wine, ate pho, and talked Olypmics.
By then it was party o'clock and folks were looking for a new place to gather, so we went over to Sommer and Jeff's, where everybody generally indulged in too much adult fun. Adult fun = many cans of PBR, that is. I got home at 1:30am, a crazy late night for me, and was asleep by 2. My body did not know what to do with itself, which was even more apparent as I woke up at 10am the next day (very late for me) with a nice healthy hangover. I juiced, I went for a 4-mile run (usually the hangover killer, especially on a day as hot as Sunday when you sweat everything out), and it was still lingering. But nevermind! I went to get a pedicure and then meandered over to Big Bear for some food, then over even further east to the Bloomingdale pool. Lovely.
Afterwards I went to see "Your Sister's Sister" which was another delightful movie. I'd never heard of Mark Duplass before but he sort of reminded me of a schlubbier, hipster-y, more-toned-down Jason Segel, and Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt were sweet and funny.
Then it was off to a screening at Jake's of the first two episodes of "The Newsroom." It's fine! I don't hate it, don't love it. I really like Emily Mortimer on it. My biggest issue with the show is that Will whatshisface is supposed to be this really secretly amazing sweet guy (according to Mackenzie) except he's...obviously a giant asshole. I imagine I'll keep watching the show for a little while longer at least.
And that was that! A very full, very hot, very fun, very social weekend. My introvert nature as well as my liver has been abused so I'm going to spend the next two days indoors and away from humanity until I go to the beach on Wednesday.
Funny that you compare Duplass to Jason Segel: Duplass just directed Segel in "Jeff who lives at home", which was a good, if small film. Much like Duplass' breakthrough "Puffy Chair".
