-That people are kind and excited to see me back blogging and wishing me well. Thanks, people!
-That said, I've had a requests from a few people to move my blog to Tumblr. OH THE IRONY. I've mentioned this before, but I DID switch this blog to Tumblr like 5 years ago and you all flipped out and got mean on me so I moved it back to Typepad. Poor old Typepad, will nobody but me have you now? I believe the answer to that is: Yes, just me. And I pay $4.95 a month for the privilege.
-DC is becoming a more attractive city. Has anyone else noticed this? I was recounting this earlier tonight while at a free screening of Ghostbusters at NoMA earlier tonight (highly recommended, by the way. Outdoor movies are great!). The crowd, especially the ladies, was quite good-looking. I told a story of the first time I ever went to Chicago several years ago to check out Northwestern before attending. I sincerely was shocked by how good-looking the people were in that town. I came back and realized: DC is full of ugly people. But the times, they are a-changing. DC's got style and it's got beauty. I credit the internet, somehow.
-I haven't seen a shooting star in, oh, like 100 years. And the last one I saw was definitely out in a dark field somewhere. I saw one tonight at 2nd and L Streets NE, while standing alone on a street corner waiting for my Uber, having fended off my dozenth street panhandler. It was nice.
-I'm reading a lot lately and it's great. Recommended: Cheryl Strayed's Wild; Gillian's Flynn Gone Girl (a perfect beach book if there ever was one; I stayed up until 1am on a school night reading it in one fell swoop); E.L. Doctorow's The March (what happens when I borrow Kindle books from the DC library. Their availability is so limited that I just search for any book that has won any sort of literary award in the past 20 years and there is usually only one book available so I pick it. It's an odd system but ensuring that I read a lot of books I wouldn't otherwise).
-Speaking of reading, I'm going to the beach next week (HALLELUJAH) and could use some solid beach read recommendations. Obviously, I'm going to get my hands on a copy of The 500. But what else?
-Final thought: It's 11:50pm and I'm not tired, which is supremely odd, because my normal bedtime is usually slightly after I finish the senior citizens dinner special at Denny's. I wish I were tired, because I have to wake up at 5:30am to catch a train to Stamford, CT, for work. Oh, the glamorous life of a digital media consultant. I'll be the blurry-eyed one in the Amtrak cafe car cursing the unreliable internet eating a pack of Entemann's cookies and a personal-sized pizza. For breakfast.
I loved Gone Girl and flew through it.
I've been liking Lionel Schriver's books lately, though some are probably more beach reading tastic than others. "We Need To Talk About Kevin" was the best of the 3 I've read recently but also the most disturbing/least fluffy. "The Post Birthday World" is more beach tastic. "Female of the Species" took me awhile to get into but I ultimately liked it. There's always Game of Thrones if you like your beach reads excessively long and full of complicated names.

It's good to see you back blogging (but I was sad to read your previous post).
As for beach reads, I've just finished Patrick DeWitt's The Sisters Brothers - the best thing I've read in ages. I had to put it away for a week or so before finishing it as the prospect of doing so made me sad! Oh, and Gary Shteyngart's Super Sad True Love Story is excellent (if a little terrifying).
