after that season finale, i will probably burn cars and stuff if it isn't renewed. that said, i want to say i realize "chuck" is nowhere near the best show on television ever. probably not even right now. but you know what? it sounds cheesy, but to me, "chuck" is what primetime television is supposed to be. it's silly. it's fun. the characters are incredibly charming. stuff explodes and there's romance and hilarity. it's the idealized version of a sitcom, living up to all the potential a sitcom might offer. and you may hate sitcoms. in fact, you probably do. but i don't want all my tv to be shakespearean and complicated and difficult and set in space. sometimes i just want what a show like "chuck" has to offer. if you haven't yet watched it, give it a chance. and now i'll turn it over to the awesome alan sepinwall on why he likes "chuck":
...But here's the thing: if "Chuck" was just a collection of in-jokes and '80s references, then... well, then it'd be "Family Guy." And while "Family Guy" has its place, what makes "Chuck" so special -- what suddenly has this storm of bloggers and Tweeters and sandwich aficionados doing all they can to help it get a third season -- is that there's a fundamental warmth and humanity underneath the jokes about "Back to the Future" and "Tron," and then cool action and high stakes piled on top. It's a cast of appealing characters played by very good actors, and so the laughs feel more satisfying, the action cooler, then if it were all just a big joke.
i'm not going to lie, when the line "indian lesbian" came up, i may have snorted some water. anyways, "chuck" truly is awesome, in all senses of the word. i hope it comes back for a season 3. i'll even go buy some $5 footlongs.
