and i did stuff on the weekend! with photos.
friday: got excessively and unplannedly wasted before 9pm in saying goodbye to our fantastic swedish intern, brynja. this made me excessively and unplannedly late for the arcade fire concert, but i still made it there, except i missed the first two songs, i believe. the concert was awesome--kind of over-produced i felt a bit in the element of showmanship if that makes any sense--like, clearly, they know how to put on some serious theatrics and stage set. but still very cool, and even better from great seats on the floor, where people rushed the stage on win's request and danced madly. still, nothing for me will ever move past that moment (three years ago! christ) at the black cat when i was like, holy hell, WHO THE FUCK IS THIS?
saturday: gold cup! we had a tent, and it was fun to watch the horses and drink gallons of mimosas, but the awful weather really made it difficult to enjoy myself too much, especially because that morning had been 75 and sunny and i threw on a sundress, but by the time we got to the course it was raining and freezing and i wanted to spend the day curled up in a bale of hay for warmth.
that night i met up with the avents and amanda to check out much-buzzed le loup at the black cat. and they do very much live up to the hype—energetic, passionate performance; seven gorgeous kids playing ten billion different instruments; pounding crescendos of good, solid indie rock that still manages to achieve a variety of sound. i liked, lots. i was also really impressed by the second band, jukebox the ghost, who were very funny and charismatic onstage, and have an excellent ben folds five vibe around them. you should also check them out. i left before exit clov came on to go home and watch some basketball at the flophouse with folks.
sunday: woke up to run a 5k with work folks for brain cancer research. i love waking up early and coming home at 10am and knowing you've accomplished lots that day already...and then, of course, when that happens, you pass out from noon to four because you're so tired. but then i did stuff like baked and cooked and read, so it wasn't a totally wasted day.
off topic - i've decided the dog park on 14th and V is my new favorite place in the world. i've made like six billion new friends while walking wreck there. dog owners are a very friendly type. except for the owners of those two big mean dogs that snapped at wreck. they can go put a sock in it.
Your intern is Icelandic.

Sorry. It's one of the ultimate blog-able stories and it's retelling would mean the end of Pygmalion. Its posting would mean that we are officially out of new ideas.
Last Friday's sidewalk incident may be honored with the same prestige.
